Our research method
Our rankings are comparative editorial judgments based on documented public evidence. The score makes our priorities inspectable; it does not turn lawyer selection into physics.
Concrete work involving children carries the greatest weight: service as a child’s representative or guardian ad litem, custody evaluation or investigation, parenting coordination, child-development or trauma training, safety work, thoughtful use of experts, and demonstrated attention to children’s relationships and stability.
We look for sustained family-law practice, meaningful custody experience, complex-case capability, practical resolution skill, and enough courtroom experience to act decisively when settlement is unsafe or unrealistic.
Relevant specialist certification, court appointments, bar leadership, teaching, scholarship, peer trust, and long-term contribution to family law can show that the lawyer’s claimed expertise has substance behind it.
A lawyer must have a useful official website with a specific biography, meaningful family or custody information, and a direct route to contact. Generic directories are not a substitute.
We seek official current-status information where stable public records allow it, flag gaps honestly, and require a fresh official check before publication and before a reader hires anyone.
The process
A high score does not mean a lawyer is right for every client, has no disciplinary history, will accept a matter, charges a particular fee, practices in every county, or will produce a favorable outcome. Public information can be incomplete, stale, mistaken, or promotional. Readers must conduct their own diligence.
We may revise a ranking when material information changes. Lawyers cannot pay for inclusion or position. If the site later accepts advertising or has a material relationship with a listed lawyer, that relationship will be clearly disclosed and kept separate from the editorial judgment.
